The Labour of Sai: A Lesson in Nishkama Karma
साई का निष्काम कर्म योग: श्रम का महत्व
The Art of Working without Attachment
Sai Baba didn't just preach Nishkama Karma Yoga (the Yoga of Selfless Action); He lived it, and this Bodhakatha offers a personal glimpse into his practice. Baba narrates his own experience of being an extremely diligent and skilled laborer working at a loom.
- Dedication to Work: He emphasized the necessity of working with full focus, skill, and honesty. His diligence earned him a high reward (more than others).
- Detachment and Charity: The profound lesson lies in his subsequent actions. Instead of using the money for himself or hoarding it, Baba gave all his earnings away to the needy and for charitable purposes.
The Core Teaching: This teaching crystallizes the essence of the Bhagavad Gita's philosophy: perform your duty (Karma) with complete effort and excellence, but remain absolutely detached from the fruits (Phala). It encourages the devotee to purify their mind (Chitta Shuddhi) by using the resources gained through their labor for the welfare of others, treating their work as an act of worship (Seva).
