The Story of Damu Anna Kasar
The Leela
Damu Anna Kasar was a devotee who, despite marrying twice, remained childless for many years. In his desperation, he visited many saints and even mastered the science of astrology. His studies led him to the certain conclusion that there was no "child fortune" in his destiny.
Despite this, he remained a devoted follower of Sai Baba. Seeing Damu's intense agony and persistent desire, Baba eventually decided to grant his wish through a basket of mangoes sent from Goa. Baba set aside four specific mangoes, stating they were for Damu Anna alone. After eating them, Damu Anna was blessed with eight children—four sons and four daughters.
? The Conflict / Doubt
While Damu Anna accepted the mangoes with pure faith, Baba used the specific phrase, "Only he will eat them, and he will 'die'". The transcript explains that this phrase carried a much deeper, more sobering meaning than a simple blessing:
- The Weight of Responsibility: Baba implied that while Damu asked for one child, He would give him eight, and the responsibility of raising them would "break his back".
- A Mother's Exhaustion: The transcript compares Baba's reaction to a mother who, tired of a child's constant bickering for unhealthy chocolates, finally says, "Take it, eat and die".
- Stones vs. Diamonds: Baba felt that Damu Anna had performed great worship (offering "diamonds and pearls" of devotion) but asked for something of little spiritual value ("stones and pebbles") in return.
- Karmic Consequences: Because there was no child in his original destiny, Damu's persistence forced open a new karmic account (Kriyamana). Baba suggested that instead of seeking children, which leads to worldly suffering (illness, grief, and bondage), Damu should have sought liberation or salvation.
The Revelation
The transcript suggests that when things do not go as planned—such as not having children—one should see it as a divine indication. It may be Baba's way of freeing a devotee from worldly bondage so they can focus entirely on seeking Him.
