The Lamps at Sai's Door: Escaping the Millstones of Maya
The Leela
In the bustling corridors of existence, the human soul often finds itself lost in the dark alleys of illusion (Maya). The world appears as a gaudy, sparkling spectacle—a mesmerizing fair that hides its hollowness behind a veil of glitter. Like a moth drawn to a flame, the mind is lured by these transient attractions, only to find itself trapped between the relentless millstones of duality.
Imagine the devotee standing at the threshold of the Dwarkamai, holding a simple lamp. This is not merely a vessel of clay and oil, but a symbol of faith, principles, and righteousness. Outside, the storm of life rages—the restless waves of the mind crashing against the shores of desire. The soul feels the crushing weight of opposing forces: happiness and sorrow, success and failure, life and death. It asks in despair, 'How long must I be ground in this mill?'
Yet, as the lamp is lit at Sai's door, a gentle warmth begins to permeate the cold darkness. The devotee realizes that the dazzling world outside is far from God, a labyrinth where puppets dance to the strings of the great illusionist. To find peace, one must stop drifting on the surface waves and, like the oyster, dive deep into the ocean of the self to find the Pearl—Sai.
? The Conflict / Doubt
How can one escape the suffering caused by the duality of the world—the constant grinding between pleasure and pain—when the mind is as restless as the ocean?
The seeker is confronted with the Illusion of Control. We believe we are the doers, proud of our intellect and bodies, yet we remain helpless puppets in the hands of Maya, oscillating between the attraction of the 'sparkling world' and the inevitable sorrow it brings.
The Revelation
The darkness of life fades only when the light of faith is kindled. The Guru reveals that true freedom lies not in conquering the world, but in surrendering the ego that seeks to control it.
- The Lamp of Faith: The more lamps of righteousness you light at Sai's door, the more the shadows of illusion retreat. Knowing His heart allows you to bask in His light.
- Gratitude is Worship: True devotion is not a transactional prayer for happiness. It is the beggar's acceptance of whatever alms the Master gives—be it sunshine or shade.
"Keep serving Sai; sunshine and shade are a sweet fruit."
- The Puppet and the Master: Acknowledge that you are a guest in this world for a brief moment. Your body, mind, and intellect are not under your control. By realizing the strings are in Sai's hands, you cease to struggle against the dance.
- The Pearl of Wisdom: Do not let the mind stay at the tempting shores of desire. Become the oyster that dives deep, abandoning the surface to attain the Supreme Being, the only source of eternal bliss.
